Street Style Propaganda Part 3: Apec Meeting

The Apec Summit is returning to Ho Chi Minh City in the next few days (11-18 November) and, like bugs from the woodwork, out come the billboards advertising the Trade Fair. Here's an interesting debate regarding the Canon billboards up in Hanoi in preparation for the meeting in the capital.

The billboards are mostly an eyesore and the Summit has a number of side-effects - for example, getting a visa or extending a current one for the period before the Apec meeting and the duration thereof is basically impossible unless you're a diplomat. Also, streets are cordoned off, nightclubs and restaurants are on a strict curfew (I remember the previous meeting where it was nigh impossible to find a club open after 12 as the owners feared police crackdowns and retribution). Hopefully, the meeting will just get over and done with and life will return to semi-sanity.

Hey! Nice blog which I've only just discovered. One more for the reader. Love the pics and I'm a big fan of the adverts around town as well.....in a not strange kind of way. They have a certain appeal! Any here's to a link up!

Hahaha... thanks for the photos!! I miss the intense propaganda.

This is quite interesting. You're in Vietnam (my country) and I've always wanted to stand on top of Table Mountain...

Some day :)

Well Viet, believe me or not, I've never even stood on Table Mountain! I was up there once many years ago - but it my mother's womb while she was pregnant with me so I didn't have much of a view :) I'll definitely have to change that when I go back for holiday soon.

Where are you now? In VN?

I disappear for a week and when I check your blog again, there are loads of strange people checking it out! Crazy. Like I said, far reaching.

Oh man I guess I'm one of those "strange people". Sorry aight but I don't mean to be a stalker.

No I'm in Canada right now, but heading back to VN after 10 years of ... travelling-ish soon! :)

That's why I've been reading blogs of people who live in VN to gain an idea of what it's like there now.

I hope you don't mind me reading your blog, though really I should've asked for permission before reading, haha.

Better late than never, eh?

Cheers!

Hehe, yeah dude, maybe you should've asked mullet for permission and not me! Naah cool, it must be such a good feeling coming back after such a long time - I can't imagine being away from South Africa for 10 years! Good luck and enjoy the blog.

Mullet you shouldn't scare away the few fans Henno has!!!

henno said...

Yeah, tell him Alet - it's hard enough trying to find them in the blogosphere, then he has to come scare them away! But then, again, he was "Blogger of the month of June" so he can pretty much do what he wants I guess...

Yeah - you've never been a stranger in my backyard. In fact we've even slept there (when you were passed out drunk lying in the corner on the bricks to avoid the sprayers and I was cozy up in the tree in my hammock)!

Haha! Could anyone ever forget that kind of shit?
